Presentation
The Geometric Modeling and Computer Graphics group has been working on problems related to the representation and manipulation of spatial data and on the development of graph models since 1979. The group was until 1990 with the Institute for Applied Mathematics of the National Research Council of Italy, and now operates at the Department of Computer and Information Sciences (DISI) of the University of Genova.
The group is active in geometric modeling and computational geometry for specific applications in computer graphics, geographic information systems, and CAD. The reference applications of the research of the group are in scientific visualization, computer aided design and virtual reality. The current research activity of the DISI group focuses on modelling and computational issues related to the representation and manipulation of spatial objects, with emphasis on multi-resolution modelling of multi-dimensional scalar fields.
Since 2004, the activities of the group has been moved also towards techniques for digital multimedia content structuring and reasoning and towards the design and development of innovative web-based applications for multimedia (Semantic Web and Ontologies) involving the generation of innovative software architectures based on cutting edge technologies (XML, Web Services, Semantic Web, 3G Devices and Networks).
